Amazon is a race of female warriors in Greek mythology.

Amazon often appear in myths of Greece and Rome although it is not known whether they are pure myth or a real character.

According to Greek myth, Amazon has an independent kingdom located in Turkey.

There are various versions about the location of royal Amazon but is usually considered to be located on the borders of the known world.

Men are not allowed to stay in the Amazon region or married to Amazon.

Every year, Amazon will mate with members of the tribe who are all composed of men, Gargarean, to sustain their population.

Baby boy abandoned, killed, or sent to be raised by Gargarean.

Amazon took a role in a variety of Greek mythology. The story of the most famous is the Attic War that took place between Athens and Amazon.

The war was triggered when Hercules stealing 'magic girdle Amazon queen, Hippolyta, as one of the twelve tasks that must be accomplished Hercules.

Hercules aided by Theseus who then kidnapped sister Hippolyta named Antiope.

Amazon then retaliated by attacking Attica in southern Greece, but it can be defeated by the Athenians.

The depiction of this battle, called amazonomachies, inspired many works of Greek art.

In some versions, Theseus said to have married Antiope, while in other versions marry Hippolyta.

In both versions, the story is the only one that mentions the existence of the Amazon who are married. From weddings, Theseus had a son named Hippolytus.

Archaeological evidence suggests that there may have been female soldier who lived in Scythia, northern Eurasia and the Caspian Sea region. Tomb recorded female soldiers have been found in that area.

Because the male resident in the area often go to war for a long time, the women allegedly had to defend themselves which eventually became the inspiration for the myth of the Amazon.
